Meet the #iKTribe: Devasha Naidoo

The #iKTribe is a family, built on different personalities, backgrounds, talents and abilities – who are all drawn together out of the need to shake things up in the fintech space.

“Torture the data long enough and it will confess to anything.” –Ronald Coase

Meet Devasha Naidoo, our Data Diva with a passion for pattern predictions, algorithms and visualisation. She is ultimately responsible for extracting and maintaining the core of our data, so that it remains available and usable to us – because ultimately, stories are data with a soul. At least, that’s what she says.

Tell us, who is Devasha?
Well, I love food, movies rated less than 5/10 on IMDB and escape rooms. I sound like a major nerd until I tell you that my favourite music is Rap. I adore a great view, hate raw onions, and I think that pineapple on pizza is the best combo ever. I also have a huge collection of art markers (you’ll see why if you scroll a little).

I’m driven by learning new things – attempting a new hobby, learning a different programming language or choosing something I haven’t had before on a menu!

What’s your role at iKhokha?
Here, I’m an Analytics Manager. My team and I are essentially responsible for the maintenance of the analytics infrastructure at iKhokha – and we work on some pretty cool projects where the end goal is to drive action from insights provided through Data. See, I’ve never worked for a fintech company before. And with iKhokha selling card machines, the data that I get my hands on is super interesting to work with.

Who is Devasha outside of iKhokha?
I’d like to think I’m the same person…with a twist. I am quite creative which isn’t generally a common characteristic for someone analytical, but I really love art and drawing – so there’s balance haha. I also absolutely love spending time with my family, and my dogs.

Dee, tell us about The Sugar Paper.
In my spare time, I’m an avid journal writer and I love doodling. It takes my mind off things and actually helps me concentrate and retain more information. I think this passion started when I was like 4 and I tried to draw my family – but, it wasn’t so nice hahahaha. And when I was about 16, I really honed in on this. I have an Instagram account called The Sugar Paper where you can find bullet journal spreads, quotes, funnies and mostly food with face drawings – all drawn by me.

What’s your biggest strength?
I’m determined. I try not to give up and I explore every option before calling it quits.

Name of the last book you read?
The Mastermind. I tend to mostly read biographies/non-fiction books.

Your advice to yourself on how to handle a stressful situation?
Only worry about what you can control in the moment, and accept what you can’t control.

Describe iKhokha in one word.
Innovative.

If you were a crayon, what colour would you be?
Red.

What’s the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten?
Sea urchin.
